Seems that Depeche Mode is really enthusiastic about performing in Mexico! There’s a new tour date for Mexico City (Foro Sol) on October 4th.

On June 18th and 19th the people who own a certain credit card will be able to get tickets first…on June 20th, the rest of the tickets will be available.

We can’t wait to have you here Depeche guys!

This Friday, the German site tape.tv will host the band’s newest video for Peace, the second single from the album Sounds of the Universe. The people who live in this country will be the only ones to watch the premiere. The rest of the world will eventaully have access.

Another tour date has been added for Mexico! Monterrey City will receive the band on October 6th, 2009. The presale starts today and finishes on the 5th.

This album was released on September 28, 1987. (I was not even born, hah!)
It was the sixth studio album by the band; their For the Masses Tour led to the first live album 101.

As another interesting note, Music For The Masses became the [band's] highest-charting in the US when it was released.

Never Let Me Down Again: a very interesting song for a beginning. The beats, and the rythm in general invite you to forget about the issues on your mind in order to enjoy the song. Martin and Dave combine their voices nicely.

The Things You Said: a Martin’s solo song. It’s one of the most painful songs with painful lyrics. The beats and the vocals have a nostalgic tune…wishing that certain situation was not real at all.

Strangelove: the most energetic song of the album. The lyrics invite you to live life as it is ignoring the fact that some people may call it a “sin”. At the same time, there is a sense of openness when it comes to experiment: I’m not trying to say I’ll have it all my way. I’m always willing to learn when you’ve got something to teach.

Sacred: it might be a “controversial” song due to the need of receiving something for being a “firm believer”. On the other hand, it points out how… hmmm…institutions have the duty of selling a story here, there, and everywhere. This kind of a “warning” song.

Little 15: this song reminds me of the alternative worlds we all may create to escape from time to time. We all seek a happier place, which is not always in the world outside. Some people, maybe more experienced than us (like our parents?) try to make us see things just as they are, but at the same time they long for that alternative vision.

Behind The Wheel: one of their sexiest songs ever. Check the lyrics to confirm this information! On the other hand, I have found another side of it: responsibility. The one behind the wheel has a big one.

I Want You Now: another of their sexiest songs ever! Martin was so into the song…it is so powerful! That feeling of wanting someone so badly…

To Have And To Hold: a discreet song, but interesting at the same time! Dave’s practically whispering so that makes it really different. It is practically a confession, and at the same time there is the need of finding someone who cares of what he has to say. Maybe this led to Personal Jesus later on!

Nothing: it has a funny tune, which is paradoxical since the lyrics are kind of ‘dark’. The title says it all: nothing. You can come up with many explanations to understand this life, but at the end of the day you’ve got nothing.

Pimpf: the instrumental song of the album. The piano might drive you crazy! Once it finishes, a silence and then you get to hear the hidden track: “Interlude #1 – Mission Impossible.” Makes me picture myself in a dark room sitting on a corner listening to that sound…trying to figure out where it comes from. Then it goes away, and I am completely alone.

I was going to post another Depeche Mode video, but I found this one and laughed so hard that I couldn’t resist and decided to display it here.

I knew that the guys are funny when it comes to interviews, but I had certainly seen nothing! From this day on, Andy becomes “Andy the naughty”!

This could make my day if I happened to feel down some time.  And I hope it makes yours whatever your mood is.

A couple of days back I got the Devotional DVD, which features the world tour that promoted the album Songs of Faith and Devotion. It was filmed in 1993 by Anton Corbjin; Depeche Mode was Alan Wilder, Andrew Fletcher, Dave Gahan, and Martin Gore back then.

It has two discs: the first one contains a 94 minute performance; the second one includes the live projections, promotional videos, an MTV documentary, and a monologue by Corbjin.

I can honestly say that this DVD is a piece of art. I love every aspect on it: the stage, the projections, and the performance for sure. It amazes me that the band members were able to put aside all their conflicts, and offer the audience such great concert. Nevertheless, I could notice that horrible tension.

Alan looked angry most of the time. He was kind of forced to play, and barely smiled; Andy’s face revealed depression while Martin’s showed indifference. Dave seemed to be enjoying the whole thing on his own way. It is not a secret that, on those days, he was into drugs…perhaps this made him have a different attitude while performing.

On the other hand, I cannot complain about their work on stage. The concert started up with a powerful vibe generated by Higher Love; nevertheless, this vibe changed completely bringing a sexy environment with World In My Eyes. Dave’s moves said it all.

Then again, another radical change: Walking In My Shoes. This song might inspire revels to stand up and speak their minds no matter how controversial their ideas are.

“And before you come to any conclusions try walking in my shoes. Try walking in my shoes!”

The sexy vibe came back again with Behind the Wheel, and then Stripped. And just when I thought that Dave’s vocals could not be any perfect, they played Condemnation. This is one of his best performances, I have no doubt. I did not know that this particular song sounded so powerful live! I could not help myself, and started singing along. It is so very special to me.

So now I am fully aware that I am practically providing a lot of spoilers. Maybe my readers have not had a chance to purchase the DVD so I think I will leave it here.  I just want to add that this performance made me appreciate the Songs of Faith and Devotion album even more. I have always enjoyed it, but it is not one of my favorites; nowadays, it is more tasteful. Mmm!

The live projections…oh well, what can I say? Corbjin is a genius! I discovered that he is an artist that inspires me. I definetely want to be like him in terms of creativity. Every time I observed these projections, I thought: “and how did he come up with this?!”

The MTV documentary was interesting, but then again, it was like another element for the audience to realize that the band was having serious issues. Nevertheless, there was an interesting comment from Corbijn on how he met the band. I did not know that one! (Am I still spoiling badly?)

I also have something to say about the videos, but that is material for another entry.

I am honoured to start with some great news: Dave Gahan is back! On may 12th the guy suffered a severe bout of gastroenteritis, which led to hospitalization. The medical tests revealed a low-grade malignan tumour in his bladder; fortunately, it was removed and he’ll be ready to perform in the Leipzig show on June 8th.

It’s great to have you back, Dave!
